Professional Writing
Throughout the ECS 100 course, I was able to explore myself and issues surrounding me today. Doing this allowed me to create assignments that I believe reflect how I believe which include:
Autobiographical Paper
Provided below are excerpts from my autobiographical paper created for ECS 100. I believe that these statements provide an understanding of who I am and the teacher I want to become.
Throughout high school I continually told the career counsellor that I did not know what I wanted to do once I graduated. In sessions, I did a lot of different quizzes to figure out what I would be good at and often a teacher came up. This caused me to think back on my experiences with teaching and decide if that is the direction that I would like to take.
I believe that all of my experiences in my life have led me into the direction I am in now. My family taught me values that I will honour for my entire life. My parents have been the greatest influence on my life. They have exposed me to so many new opportunities that I was able to be involved in. The sports and activities I was a part of taught me many different skills that would be beneficial to both my personal and professional lives. Therefore, I believe I will be able to become a good teacher that cares for her students if I continue to work hard.
Journey towards reconciliation
I believe that these excerpts from my Journey Towards Reconciliation paper reflect what I believe and what I wish to pass on to my students in the future.
I believe that we need to stop thinking reconciliation is a burden placed upon us. Reconciliation is a good thing. In my aesthetic response, I decided to create a crossword. This crossword is has the word reconciliation in the centre and connected to it are words that I believe correspond to reconciliation. As you can see, I chose positive words. I did not want to include the negative aspects because I thought that maybe if people saw all of the positivity reconciliation entailed, then people would be more willing to learn about it and do it. I wanted to continue this positive vibe with the colours. I chose bright colours because I believe they enforce the positivity created in the crossword. I cannot force people to reconcile. I cannot force people to feel the empathy I have felt. I can encourage reconciliation and empathy. I can provide information to people who are ignorant to the issues of Indigenous peoples. I can shut down negative stereotypes that I hear from people who are close to me. In the future, when I begin teaching, I can inform my students about residential schools and the loss of culture and I can relate that to their own lives. I can provide real and personal examples from residential survivors because I feel that this is how people understand what has happened and how that has structured the actions and lives of Indigenous people. |
My ECS 100 Journey Towards Reconciliation Aesthetic Response

We can teach children how to be accepting of other people’s ideas and traditions. This will create more empathetic children thus allowing them to be willing to shut down stereotypes. Teachers have power but we should be using them in the correct way. Rather than using this power as a way of force, we should use it as a way of encouragement. We should take the power away from the construction of a classroom and instead let children determine how we set up the classroom once we have learned their needs. This will create a safer learning environment thus encouraging children to want to learn and become open-minded to what is discussed in class. We can then introduce the ideas of inclusiveness and reconciliation to the classroom because children will be able to engage in the issues.

I believe (January 20, 2020)
I am now able to reflect on how much my beliefs have expanded throughout the semester. My beliefs started out so small and have truly expanded and become more complex.
I Believe...
- That tests are not the only way to show that children have learned something
- That children deserve to have a safe learning environment
- That everyone has the right to an education
- That teachers should not abuse their authority
- Students should be able to have fun when learning
- That there is not only one way to teach
